Speculation

Gambling – a moment where people make irrational choices on the basis of rational experience.Whether it is a casino or real life, humans take risks.I think this is what makes us different from other animals.I don’t think we are rational beings. We really are irrational. And that has allowed us to become intelligent.Other species don’t take risks unless they think they are going to win,or when their life is already on the line,or they are going to lose something or someone precious to them.We humans take risks even when the odds are against us,even though we are perfectly safe in our cocoon and even though the things we love are safe.I wonder now, which is more smarter and braver, making a rational choice or an irrational one? What do you think? Which is the best way to go?

  1. I think humans take risks but without fully realising how great the risks are. For example, if we honestly, genuinely thought that we were going to plunge to our deaths, how many people would sky-dive? The same applies to any extreme sport, expeditions to far flung lands, trips into space etc etc. I’m not sure if it comes down to irrationality or more to a lack of awareness of our own mortality

  2. Humans take irrational risks for they have developed a sense of invincibility due to the acquired level of intelligence over other surviving species, But the same ignorance proves fatal to the cause.

  3. That’s a very deep thought! I wonder if it is possible to be aware and irrational at the same time? If we are aware and don’t fear the risks,we may make irrational choices.Maybe it all comes down to how we perceive our own fears.
